Citronellyl Nitrile
Synonyms: agrunitrile, baranyl nitrile, citronalva, citrylone, 3,7-dimethyl oct-6-ene nitrile, 3,7-dimethyl-6-octene nitrile, 3,7-dimethyl-6-octene-1-nitrile, 3,7-dimethyloct-6-enenitrile, vervonitrile.
Some literature says that it is not found in nature though it is reported otherwise in a few references as follows. Citronella is the common name for a grassa,Cymbopogon nardus, which is native to India and southeast Asia. Citronella oil is a yellowish essential oil distilled from the leaves of either of two grasses, Cymbopogon nardus or C. winterianus. This aromatic oil is inexpensive, and widely used in cheap perfumes and as a fragrance in soaps. It is also best known as an insect repellent. Cirtonellyl Nitrile is stable and used in functional fragrance products where stability of odor and color is required. It is used to enhances citrus notes/ lemon and to reduce the sharp aldehydic notes . It is used as a substitute for citral.

Uses: As a more stable substitute for citral, enhances citrus notes. Useful in herbal fragrances. It shows a very intensive odor reminiscent of citrus when diluted. It is an excellent substitute for Citronellal as an citric fragrance component for alkaline product bases.
